Freedom of choice

Each one of us was created to perform pilgrimage from the very beginning of his life to its end.  Who knows if not beyond that, as well.  We received the greatest gift of all, the ability to make our own, independent decisions.  It is defined as Free Will.  Having it in our possession and disposal makes us human and distinguishes us from all other creatures.

There is however, one caveat.  No matter what we decide to do, we are to face all the consequences of our decisions.  This is the principal law of Nature.  This is called responsibility.

Responsibility is a huge ballast  on our consciousness.   We often attempt to lighten the meaning of the necessity of deciding on our behavior or our goals, our destinations.  We try to eliminate consequences of our mistakes.  We often take extreme measures.  We resign from the right and duty of deciding.  We voluntarily give away our Greatest Gift.

In the past, the transfer of decision making rights was done by physical force.  Over centuries, civilization was based on slavery.  Then, mankind invented democracy.  This system grew and evolved to its present form.  Humanity has bred a monster on its own breast.

What is democracy?  Well, people delegate a group of the ones from among themselves, ones who are to make decisions and be responsible for them.  So that we hope not to have to worry about anything.  What a relief!  Now the only thing we have to do is to get up in the morning, go to work where we spend eight hours, come back home and sit with a can of beer in front of a glowing indoctrinator.  Then, we go to sleep and the next day we are ready to get up again.

Unfortunately, the people whom we designate to govern and rule, are the very same kind of humans as we are.  Therefore, as incentive for them to take and do their job, we customarily associate their positions with concessions, special rights and powers.  Those are privileges.   The privileges make them a special class of people.

They do not hesitate to utilize their positions and so the neo-slavery was reborn.

This process is shown on the drawing.  The tired, scared, unhappy, hopelessly sad young man represents us, a common man, woman or child mercilessly thrown into the everyday life.  We lost our guidance.  We do not know where to go or even where to turn.  We look for help.  We desire democracy.  But nothing seems to work.  We found ourselves alone and abandoned in the middle of nowhere.

But here comes a great, powerful entity.  It sits beside us and offers us its assistance.  To look more compassionate toward us, it takes our shape, appearance and posture.  "Look", it says.  "I totally understand and appreciate your position and situation.  I will help you for free.  Just rely on me.  Do not worry.  Be happy.  Have a positive attitude!  I will think and perform for you and the responsibility will be exclusively mine.  I have authority to do and reach anything imaginable for you.  Follow me".  This force has a name.  It identifies as Evil.

Even though we are physically sound, we are totally confused.  Our feet hurt, our shoes are worn.  We cannot return, we cannot even take too much time to rest.  We are too tired to think on our own.  And we fear that if we go, we may not do the right thing and we will have to face all the consequences of our decisions.  Because we believe in almighty and totally blind Justice.  The Destiny circles over our head like the Damocles' sword and it even seems to dive on us in fierce aggression.

We usually don't notice the other voice, how tiny in comparison against the Devil.  It is a little Angel that says:  "Listen.  There is a road, the way designed and prepared especially for you by The Greatest Engineer, road that leads prominently from the left to the Right.  Around there is a beautiful World for you to admire so you don't become bored during your peregrination.  There are fruit trees on the road side so that you don't get hungry or weak.  Go on, use the road, use the trees, use the landscape and just go.  All the roads, especially this one, lead Somewhere".

Scheherezade, the pre-Muslim Arab princess, once told the following story:  One powerful and very rich sheik was traveling across a desert and lost all of his camels.  Suffering badly from sun, heat, and thirst, he dreamed of a golden amphora filled with ice cold crystal spring water.  When he arrived to an oasis, he was offered two vessels, an old, rusty cup containing the best water in the world and a golden vase with donkey urine.  Which one, Scheherezade asks, did he choose?
